BASIC FUNCTION
The President-Elect/Secretary assists the President/Treasurer in carrying out the functions of that office and performs specific duties delegated by the President. The President-Elect performs specific duties delegated by the President in his or her absence and will assume the office of President/Treasurer upon his or her death, resignation, or removal from office. The President-Elect observes closely all phases of the association’s activities in preparation for assuming the presidency the following year.
TERM
First year of three-year term.
DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND AUTHORITY
Within the limits of the Bylaws and official NACS policy, the President-Elect is responsible for, and has commensurate authority to, accomplish the duties as follows:
- Assumes the office of President upon his or her death, resignation, or removal from office.
- Serves as a member of the Board of Trustees, Executive Committee, Finance and Budget Committee as well as liaison to other NACS Inc. Boards, councils, committees, and work groups as assigned by the President.
- Performs duties as assigned by the President, which may include serving as chairman of one or more of the NACS committees, task forces, or work groups.
- Assists the President in the performance of his/her duties, whenever requested to do so.
- Attends the Annual Meeting, CAMEX, and other NACS Inc. meetings as directed by the President.
- Represents the association with other higher education and bookselling associations or organizations as requested by the President.
- Supports and defends policies and programs adopted by the Board of Trustees to advance the principles articulated in the NACS vision, mission, core values, and strategic direction.
- As Secretary ensures that records are maintained of all association, Board of Trustees and Executive Committee meetings including ensuring that copies of the minutes of each meeting are provided to the President and Trustees.
- Attends the new Board Orientation as necessary.
COMMITTEE PARTICIPATION
- Participates in Executive Committee meetings and conference calls typically held every other week.
- Attends the Finance & Budget Committee meeting and participates on their conference calls.
- Attends state/regional meetings and other industry related events.
