A good working knowledge of:
- NACS and its affiliated subsidiaries ΜΆ NACS Foundation and PartnerShip
- Current issues in higher education and campus retailing, such as recent legislation and the evolving role of digital content in the course materials ecosystem
- Retailing concepts, practices, and systems, including the important role of collegiate retailing in higher education
- Organizational governance and how volunteer boards can function effectively, promoting accountability and transparency
Well-developed skills in:
- Comfortably speaking with association members about NACS services, industry issues, and Board decisions; relating feedback to the Board and NACS Staff
- Collaborating, building consensus, and promoting an atmosphere of cooperation
- Understanding and interpreting financial and budget reports, recognizing how these can be utilized for effective business decision-making
- Communicating clearly and succinctly, articulating a point of view while respecting the opinions of others
- Engaged and active participation with committees, regional associations, and other volunteer opportunities
Demonstrated ability to:
- Look at issues from an industry perspective rather than how an individual store or company might be affected
- Strategically analyze data and information to recommend or support a choice between alternative courses of action
- Complete projects and work requests on time and assume a leadership role as required
- Think creatively; suggest, embrace, and advance innovative ideas and concepts
No one candidate will be expected to possess all of the knowledge, skills, and abilities described above, but these qualities will contribute to a candidate’s success as a nominee for and member of the NACS Board of Trustees.
