Gwen Gardner, CCR, Presented with Prestigious Award from National Association of College Stores

OBERLIN, OHIO, March 5, 2016 – Gwen Gardner, CCR, retired manager of the Davidson College Store, Davidson, NC, was presented with the National Association of College Stores’ (NACS) Aspen Award , during a ceremony at CAMEX 2016 in Houston, TX. CAMEX, produced by NACS, is the largest education and trade show event in the collegiate retail industry.

The NACS Education Committee created the Aspen Award to recognize a professional in the collegiate retailing industry who has made continuous, notable contributions to the education and professional development efforts of the association and advanced the industry through learning endeavors.

“Gwen personifies what the Aspen Award is all about. She has been a champion for NACS education and an enthusiastic volunteer – facilitating sessions, mentoring future leaders, and supporting those who desired to further themselves in our industry.” said Anthony Martin, immediate past president of the NACS Board of Trustees and director of the Houston Baptist University Bookstore in Houston, TX. “ Over the years, Gwen has donated countless hours to teach others the craft of bookstore management and operations, and did so with a passion and commitment that set an example for others.”

Gardner managed the Davidson College Store for more than 24 years, retiring in 2014. She also worked for 20 years as head cashier and assistant manager/course materials manager at the Central Piedmont Community College Bookstore, Charlotte, NC. A longtime NACS volunteer, she served on a wide variety of committees and boards, including the NACS Board of Trustees from 1997-2005 with a term as president in 2003-04. She was also a regular facilitator for NACS online courses on course materials, general merchandise and college store management.
