Where the New Textbook Dollar Goes—The Price of Knowledge
Torchlight  |  Summer 2008

Too few students today understand the costs that go into producing and bringing to market the course materials they buy from your college store. To help explain those costs to students, the NACS Foundation has provided a foldout chart, Where the New Textbook Dollar Goes, which is included in the July/August Magic Mailing, as a gift to the collegiate retailing industry.

This chart is a breakdown of each dollar of a new textbook's price, based on data from NACS' College Store Industry Financial Report, 2008 edition. Depending on where your store is located, the chart contains the appropriate U.S. and Canadian monetary image and figures. Post this chart in your college store to help show your customers why textbooks and course materials cost what they do today.

Additional copies of the chart can be ordered for just the cost of shipping, through The NACS Store at www.nacs.org/nacs_store/, or by calling (800) 622-7498, ext. 3, while supplies last. A free downloadable PDF that you can print out or use on your store's web site is also available in the public portion of the NACS web site, within the Industry Information area.
